The Dean of Students/Athletic Director serves in a dual role primarily focused on the secondaryschool program (grades 7–12) and occasionally in support of the elementary program. In the roleof Dean of Students, the position focuses on supporting student behavior systems, maintaining asafe and orderly school environment, supervising students in common areas and school activities,and partnering with families and staff to support student success.The Dean works closely with the Principal to address student behavior concerns, supportinvestigations, monitor student conduct, and assist with supervision throughout the school day.The Dean serves as the first administrative designee when Principals are unavailable andsupports schoolwide systems that promote a positive school culture.
In the role of Athletic Director, the position oversees the district’s interscholastic athleticprograms for grades 7–12. The Athletic Director coordinates and supervises athletic programs,hires and supervises coaches, ensures compliance with WIAA regulations, schedules contestsand facilities, and serves as a liaison between coaches, administration, families, and thecommunity.This position reports directly to the Secondary Principal and supports the safe, effective, andpositive operation of the school.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Dean of Students Responsibilities
Student Behavior & School Climate• Support implementation of district and school behavior expectations and student conductpolicies• Assist the Principal in addressing student behavior concerns and disciplinary matters• Conduct student meetings and assist with investigations related to incidents such as conflicts,vaping, fights, or other rule violations• Support restorative conversations and student problem-solving processes when appropriate• Maintain documentation and communication related to student behavior incidents
Student Supervision• Provide regular supervision of students during passing periods, lunch, before and after school,and school events• Support supervision across both middle school and high school settings• Maintain safe and orderly environments in hallways, commons, outdoor areas, and other sharedspaces• Assist with supervision of detention, in-school suspension, or other student support structuresas needed
Family Communication & Student Support• Communicate with families regarding student concerns and behavior incidents in coordinationwith the Principal• Support students in developing strategies to improve behavior, engagement, and decision making• Collaborate with counselors, teachers, and administration to support student success
Administrative Support• Serve as the first administrative designee when the Principal(s) are unavailable• Assist with supervision of assemblies, activities, and school events• Support attendance improvement efforts in collaboration with school staff• Assist with school safety procedures, drills, and emergency response protocols
Schoolwide Collaboration• Work collaboratively with teachers, counselors, and staff to promote a positive school climate• Assist with implementation of schoolwide expectations and accountability systems• Support the daily operations of the school through shared supervision responsibilities commonin a small school setting• Build positive relationships with students and serve as a trusted adult supporting student growthand development
Athletic Director Responsibilities
Athletic Program Oversight• Organize, coordinate, and supervise all district athletic programs for grades 7–12• Ensure compliance with WIAA regulations, league requirements, and district policies• Represent the district at Athletic Director meetings and communicate relevant information toadministration and coachesCoach Supervision• Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate all athletic coaches in coordination with the Principal andHuman Resources• Ensure coaches meet required certifications, training, and compliance expectations• Provide guidance and oversight to coaches regarding program expectations and student safety
Scheduling & Facilities Coordination• Schedule athletic contests, practices, and facility usage for all athletic programs• Coordinate gymnasium and field usage with school administration and district staff• Maintain a master schedule of athletic activities and communicate schedules to staff, students,and families
Equipment & Budget Management• Maintain athletic equipment inventory and ensure equipment is properly stored and maintained• Assist in developing and managing the athletic department budget• Approve athletic equipment orders and ensure district purchasing procedures are followed
Community & Program Communication• Serve as liaison between coaches, administration, transportation staff, families, and communityorganizations• Work with booster clubs and community partners supporting athletic programs• Communicate athletic schedules, updates, and accomplishments to the school community andmedia
OTHER DUTIES
Participate in professional development and training related to student support and athleticsadministration• Assist with supervision of school activities, athletic events, and student functions• Perform related duties consistent with the scope of the position as assigned by the Principal
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Experience working in a middle school or secondary school setting preferred
• Demonstrated experience supporting student behavior systems, student supervision, and studentengagement
• Experience working with interscholastic athletics or school extracurricular programs preferred
Licenses / Certifications
• Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate or other related education credential
• Washington State Administrative Credential preferred or willingness to obtain
• Current First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting student discipline systems, restorative practices, or PBIS/MTSSbehavioral frameworks
• Experience collaborating with administrators, counselors, and families to support studentsuccess
• Experience supervising school activities, events, or athletics programs
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills in a school environment
