JOB BRIEF

Looking for CNC machine operator for small sports company. Part time work perfect for a contractor as a side hustle.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The goal is to produce high quality parts and materials by programming the machine to perform the right operations.

Preparation

  • Prepare and operate CNC machine to perform tasks such as drilling, grinding, milling of custom parts
  • Understand specifications of the task at hand and the desired result by reading blueprints, mechanical drawings, etc.
  • Import designs, drawings and/or vector files from clients into Vectric® VCarve and Aspire software
  • Translate instructions into computer commands to create tooling paths for cutting

Operation

  • Operate software to run machine code files, move and zero machine, surface table, and other functions 
  • Test and implement ideal feed rates, bit choice and RPM rates to achieve the highest quality cuts at the fastest pace
  • Set machine to complete full cycles to fabricate large number of finished products or parts
  • Prepare and load large sheets of materials onto the machine
  • Prepare a test run to check if the machine produces outputs according to specifications
  • Supervise the machine while it executes the tasks and make any necessary adjustments to produce a better result

Troubleshooting 

  • Understand the technical details of operating, maintaining and troubleshooting the machine

Quality

  • Inspect and measure finished products and parts and compare them with specification requirements to determine if the process has been completed properly
  • Brush, vacuum and use air compressor to clean finished products and parts

Maintenance

  • Store machine tools, bits and equipment in their assigned place 
  • Vacuum and maintain clean and orderly work area after every job – empty debris from vacuum when full
  • Check and maintain CNC machine on regular basis to ensure functionality 

REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS

  • Proven experience as CNC operator at least 1 year (preferred) 
  • Skill in operating CNC machinery and tooling as well as precision measurement tools 
  • ShopBot® PRSalpha CNC machine experience ideal
  • This position includes decision making, problem solving, and the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English 
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical documents and drawings
  • Computer savvy with basic understanding of computer programming and CAD/CAM
  • Proficiency with vectoring software, or an ability and willingness to learn
  • Mechanical aptitude and good math skills
  • A keen eye for detail and results-driven approach
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to know when to stop and ask for clarification
  • Other: Please be prepared to conduct a simple test importing a vector image or creating a logo cut from an image file on the ShopBot® CNC machine onsite at our facility

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is indoors in a small manufacturing facility in Hood River, Oregon
  • Potential hazards exist in working with energized machinery and equipment
  • Ability to work in noisy and dusty environments that require eye and ear protection and respirator use
  • Physical activities may include standing for long periods of time on hard floors, walking, stooping, twisting, kneeling, bending, reaching, finger dexterity, repetitive motions of hands and wrists, sitting, hearing, and lifting/pushing/pulling or carrying objects up to 25 lbs.   

Pay: Negotiable hourly or by the project (contract work available)

Work Hours: Due to noise of machine, working outside of normal business hours preferred (to be discussed)

Work Location: In person (this job can not be done remotely, unless using own CNC machine)
